Cairo, alBawaba – A newly emerged militant group called ‘Hasm Movement’ claimed responsibility for a bomb attack in Cairo on Friday that killed six policemen and left at least three injured.
The group has claimed few attacks in Egypt over the last months.
Earlier this week, Ministry of Interior announced that it killed three Hasam Movement members in an exchange of fire in the Upper Egyptian governorate Assiut (375 Kilometres south of Cairo).
The group makes its announcements on Internet posting, mainly using Face book page.
The Hasm movement’s social media pages and accounts were launched over a year and a half ago.
The group launched their first terrorist operation in July, claiming responsibility for an assassination attempt targeting the chief investigator at the Tamiya police station in Fayoum.
According to the Egyptian government, the group is affiliated to the Muslim Brotherhood organisation, which is banned in Egypt.
In October, the group claimed responsibility for assassinating a policeman in Beheira governorate, north-west of Cairo.
In August, the group claimed responsibility for the assassination attempts of Egypt’s former grand Mufti ‘Ali Gomaa’. It also claimed the assassination attempts of assistant Prosecutor-General late September.
On its Facebook page, the group published a detailed post on al-Haram attack just few hours after it took place.
