Cairo – Yesterday a seminar titled “Egypt, to Where?” was organized by the Nile Basin Institute for Strategic Studies and Research and was hosted by Fayoum University. The seminar’s keynote speaker was political thinker Dr. Mostafa El-Feki.
In his lecture, El-Feki stressed that Egypt would never recognize Jerusalem as capital of Israel.
On a different note, El-Feki revealed that Israel has offered to diplomatically intercede with Ethiopia to help Egypt resolve the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam crisis, yet Egypt has declined that bid which, El-Feki described as “ill-intentioned”.
This comes as US President Trump has said repeatedly that he supported the relocation of the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, despite warnings that the move would violate international law.
Palestinian officials warn that the move could doom peace talks and end hope for a two-state solution in the region. But the Israeli government, which considers Jerusalem the united capital of the Jewish state, is pushing for the move.
Political pundits maintain that ‘relocation’ would be seen as a provocative move as the old spiritual city is claimed by both the Palestinians and Israelis as their capital.
Dr. Mostafa El-Feki is the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee in the Egyptian Parliament, and a political thinker; he served a number of important diplomatic and political posts. He published several books, including, important books on the renewal of nationalist thought.
